All-new Mazda BT-50 ute will continue to be offered as a model diesel-only when it is launched in Australia at the end of this year.

Two diesel units will be shared with the BT-50 ‘s sister car, the all-new Ford Ranger, although the 2.5-liter four-cylinder Duratec petrol engine to be sent to Ford will not function under the hood of Mazda. The performance data of both vehicles will be the same. 3.2 the MZ-CD (Mazda calls it) is a 3.2-litre five cylinder Diesel with 147kW power and torque 470Nm. Like the Ranger tow capacity will be 3350kg.

The current 3.0-litre diesel in the outbound BT-50 produces 115kW and 380Nm of torque – 32kW and 90 nm fewer than the new model. Its towing capacity is 350 kg lower than the next model.

The engine will be available with both the six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions, and Mazda said both promise considerable improvements in NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels.

The second engine is 2.2 MZ-CD-four-cylinder 2.2 litre diesel which produces power and 110kW 375Nm torque (up to 5kW and 45Nm to 2.5-litre diesel engine, outgoing). Maximum towing capacity of 250 kg on 2500kg.

Consumption and emissions of fuel is yet to be released, although both Motors Mazda says will offer enhanced Efficiency. Currently, 2.5-liter engine used 8.5 litres/100 km combined cycle, while the 3.0-liter diesel average 9.5 litres/100 km.

The light segment by the commercial competition has never been so intense. Our brand new Volkswagen Amarok remodeling market began in February, the Ford Ranger is due in the first half of this year, in the second half of the BT-50, hit the local exhibition premises before the end of the year and the new Holden Colorado moves up for sale early in 2012.
