2012 Volvo XC90 review specs and price 2012 Volvo XC90 interior model release dateThe 2012 Volvo XC90 certainly is a capable luxury crossover SUV even now, but some of its new rivals might be a bit more tempting for the buyers. The 2012 Volvo XC boasts trendy and fashionable interior, plane ride and comfortable front seats. The 2012 Volvo XC’s 3rd row seating could be cut for enhancing the space for second row; the output power here is underwhelming and finally the navigation system here is old-fashioned and hence is tough to use. In terms of negatives, the 2012 Volvo XC90 has a monstrous size by the standards of automobiles, as it entered the market back in 2003. The XC90 has aged pretty nicely, but the problem here is that its rivals have grown strong. If truth be told, the Volvo XC90 doesn’t boasts as much space for cargo and people as any other non-luxury-proprietary (but its luxurious) Ford Flex and Buick Enclave, are two fine example. The XC90 also doesn’t have a lot of modern safety features that we saw on its latest newfangled Volvo siblings, we aren’t even considering the aged and normally imperceptive electronics interface. On top of that there also is a problem with power. The V8 engine from last year has been dropped and this leaves the only option of 3.2-ltr 6-cylinder engine which is a bit underwhelming for this huge family crossover. Even the fuel economy is not all that incredible.

Per se, a lot of rivals of Volvo XC90 will be a good purchase for you. In addition to the two aforementioned, the Acura MDX is one another considerable choice with its respectable size and price. The MDX delivers much better power, features and driving dynamics than the Volvo. If the 3rd row seat is not important for you then even Volkswagen Touareg, Volvo’s very own XC60 and Lexus RX 350 are also considerable option. Although if you want an affordable alternative to the expensive family crossover SUVs from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, then the 2012 Volvo XC90 certainly is a nice considerable choice.
Cabin Comfort and Luxury:

As far as the cabin is concerned, the 2012 Volvo XC90 delivers a decent passenger cabin, which not only is stylish, but also is quiet and comfy. The front seats of the XC90 deliver decent support and substantial space, but the 2nd and 3rd-seats are a tad congested, in comparison to some of its rivals. There also is a middle seat that is built in the center section and it slides forward to let the parents keep the kids in their reach, though you can get two of these seats on Volvo XC70 and XC60. The controls and gauges are being arranged nicely, but sadly the gauges here are not all that advanced. The navigation system offered on the Platinum level is old-fashioned and primarily depends on the imperceptive controls, which are being positioned on a remote control or behind the steering wheel. Most of the other Volvo models boast an advanced infotainment system.

The interiors of Volvo XC90 could also handle decent amount of cargo. Fold down the 2nd row 40/20/40-split and 3rd row 50/50-split seatbacks, which will give you a flat floor and at the same time a decent cargo space of 85.1 cu-ft. All of these are pretty impressive functionality for a treat crossover, but if you want that then the bigger three-row crossover such as Ford Flex and Buick Enclave could hold a lot more. One another major problem here is the fact that there only is only around 8.8 cu-ft of room behind the 3rd row seat, which means only one thing, which is that carrying seven people along with their luggage will never be a problem if you don’t capitalize in a rooftop load carrier.

Body Styling, Variants and Features:

The 2012 Volvo XC90 comes in a single body style of a luxury crossover SUV having seating capacity of seven occupants. It could be had in two different models: the XC90 3.2 and the sporty XC90 R-Design, both of these models comes in three different trims: a base, the top-end Platinum and middle-of-the-line Premier Plus.

The list of standard features for the base 3.2 model include fog lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, heated mirrors, back privacy glass, a sunroof, keyless entry and rear parking sensors. The cabin of XC90 houses cruise control, automatic twin-zone climate control, leather upholstery, 8-way front power seats having lumbar adjustment and driver-seat memory settings, 40/20/40-split 2nd row seats having integral center child booster seat, a fold-flat front passenger seat, a 3rd 50/50-split row seat, a trip computer, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, and an 8th speaker audio system having a satellite radio, CD player, an USB/iPod audio interface and an auxiliary audio jack.

Go for the Premier Plus trim and you will get a rearview mirror having integrated compass, adaptative xenon headlights, and a wood-trimmed gearshift handle. The top-end Platinum model brings a real-time traffic information, navigation system, a 12-speaker premium audio surround-sound system and a rearview camera.

The XC90 3.2 R-Design variants of the aforementioned trims are also pretty similar, though all of them come loaded with adaptative xenon headlights, 20-in alloy wheels, a self-leveling back suspension, sport-tuned steering and suspension, exclusive leather padding, idiosyncratic interior and exterior styling touches, a sport steering wheel and exclusive gauges.

The optional equipment here includes a Climate package which brings automatic wipers, headlight washers, an inner air quality sensor and heated front seats. Some separate options here include a back-seat video entertainment system and a blind spot warning system.
Engine and Conduct:

The power for 2012 Volvo XC90’s all the models comes from a 3.2-ltr inline 6-cylinder engine, which generates 240-bhp of maximum power and 236 lbs-ft of utmost torque. The engine here is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission having manual shift control. The standard drive here is front-wheel drive, and there is an option of all-wheel drive.
Economy:

The estimated fuel efficiency for 2012 Volvo XC90 is around 16 mpg in city and 23 mpg on highways, which comes down to 19-mpg.

Safety Equipment:

The 2012 Volvo XC90’s standard safety feature includes stability control, antilock brakes, whole-body side curtain airbags, side-impact airbags for front-seat, a useful child booster seat assembled into the 2nd row and anti-whiplash front seats. There also is an optional blind-spot warning system on all XC90 models. While all those safety features are sufficient we think that there still are a lot of advanced safety features that is mission from this model.

Starting from $38,400.
